The main thing to bear in mind when submitting your work is that what you send is what the world will see. If the words, for whatever reason, cannot be clearly read then the visitors to the Poetry Display website will pass it over in favor of those poems that offer greater clarity.

If you are using a computer to compose your work, then select a font that is easy to read, Verdana and Times New Roman are good examples. The fancier fonts can be used effectively but don't be too extreme in your choice. And if it does not make your poem take up too much room, why not increase the size of your print. Some fonts will benefit greatly by being increased from say 10 point to 14 or even larger. Experiment to get the best effect.

If you are using a typewriter then make sure that fluff on the letters or a ribbon nearing the end of its useful lifetime are not spoiling the effect of your page.

Try to use a good quality paper, uncreased or marked. Use colored if you wish or even embellish the page with artwork if you like, but bear in mind that the more 'clutter' on a page the longer it will take to appear on screen, and you don't want the reader to grow impatient waiting and again have a reason to look elsewhere instead.

Bear these simple points in mind and your work when it appears on our site will be read and enjoyed easily.
